orgasmorgy:

I am shocked, shocked that Moffat would write a female character who feels too uncomfortable to name or even directly speak of a woman’s anatomy, who works in a fucking morgue.

Personally I always interpreted this scene as Molly struggling to be polite in a rather…potentially crude situation, for lack of a better phrase.
After all, even as desensitized to anatomy and death as she is, she’s still quite proper and polite about it, and seems to have a sort of affection for the dead if anything—after all, she did flinch a bit when Sherlock started whipping that cadaver of the man she used to know, and I have a feeling it wasn’t just out of surprise.
Beyond that, I never even really interpreted this as her not saying vagina so much as saying “why does sherlock know what this woman looks like naked, to the point of which he is capable of identifying her by her body”.

And maybe that’s just the Ace in me talking, but I’m pretty sure he was identifying her by her entire figure, not just her pelvic region, which is probably pretty mundane/generic from the position she’s in [once again, not trying to get crude, but really, the physical deviations which can be classified as more or less unique aren’t really visible when you’re lying down stiff as a board on a morgue table at waist height]…Think, people, think.

Beyond that, you can tell he gives her a full once over even in the gif, regardless. One of the most important parts of him seeing her naked was that he made exact visual calculations of her full physical measurements, thus making it highly likely that he could identify her body despite the lack of facial features present. Knowing Moffat, it was more likely a nod in the direction if a previous plot point which circled around to support the idea that Sherlock would be able to identify her in the first place….rather than a jab at a somewhat meek female character being uncomfortable with saying the word Vagina. Although, just because she works in a morgue doesn’t mean she has to be comfortable with saying it, really. I don’t feel like she’s the actual cut-and-gut medical examiner so much as a lab tech, can anyone fill me in on that? Wasn’t paying close enough attention.

I don’t know. Vagina just seems like an awkward word to juxtapose into that gap of silence, and it never even really occurred to me until tumblr brought it up.
